In 1987 Danny finally achieved a long-held ambition and made a record of his own. He had an idea to incorporate elements of Jazz and Folk music. The title 'Whatever' was chosen in anticipation of the usual question "Do you play the blues, jazz or folk?"
Danny Thompson - Double Bass (Victoria)
Tony Roberts - Tenor, Alto and Soprano Sax, Northumbrian Pipes, Clarinet, Flute, Sopranina, and Whistle
The tapes of this set, recorded at a long forgotten venue, had lain in Danny's attic for 32 years. The Danny Thompson Trio, in this particular format, did not enjoy a very long life but when it was in action it enjoyed the highest possible respect from the leaders of London's jazz scene. The likes of Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes were impressed.
The Trip:
Danny Thompson - Bass (Victoria)
John McLaughlin - Guitar
Tony Roberts - Tenor Saxophone, Flute, Bass Clarinet
A look back in in time at a band that should have done more recording.
Thank goodness this small fragment was preserved and that Danny remembered he had it and we now have the CD in stock.
What matters most to Danny Thompson is a simple word 'integrity'. As a musician and as a man, Danny has given his best to his life and to his music. To Danny Thompson, music is a language that one should never be pompus about.

During 1995 Danny recorded this album with Peter Knight the well respected violinist known for his outstanding musicianship with Steeleye Span
"The result of our association is presented on this recording which consists of two separate pieces totally improvised. The time spent with Peter during this work was pure joy. He has a great humour, genorosity and as the recording clearly shows, superb musicanship with a wonderful tone." DANNY THOMPSON 1995
Live in NC pairs Darrell Scott a wizard of guitar and song, with the intensity of Danny Thompson's Bass and the deeply grooved timekeeping of drummer Kenny Malone.
Danny's tone and articulation on the thundering bass, and Darrell Scotts extraordinary songs unify and organise an intimate communion between performers and audience on this latest release.

'John and Danny at the Brewery? in their hell raising days of the 1970's this would have been no surprise, but to be more precise we join John and Danny at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, on the 11th and 12th June 1986.
The immitable Arran Ahmun plays drums and percussion as we embark on a musical journey into the unknown...an experimental odyssey through many of John's songs both old and new.' John Hillarby

DANNY THOMPSON is one of the world's top acoustic bass players. He is often referred to as the 'Musicians Musician' because of the wide respect in which he is held.
In this video, Danny demonstrates his breadth of musical vision, while talking about his life in music, his early beginnings, his influences, and his career-long love affair with Victoria-the 160 year old lady with whom he has lived for the past 50 plus years: the lady in question is his double bass
